I'm Canadian, which is not anti-American

The Globe & Mail carried an article today, which covered the comments made by Conservative MP, Bev Oda. Ms. Oda raised some rather interesting opinions on the future of the CBC English Television service during this lockout era, and how the nation's broadcaster will react in a post-lockout environment.

Ms. Oda raised some rather interesting opinions on the future of the CBC English Television service during this lockout era, and how the nation's broadcaster will react in a post-lockout environment. She was asking that CBC president Robert Rabinovitch appear before the House of Commons Canadian heritage committee (CHPC), to outline how the lockout has affected the CBC's bottom line. Ms. Oda also stated that "(p) eople are starting to question, if nobody's watching CBC television, English language, then does it justify the utilization of those dollars in that way."

Of course the typical Liberal reaction came from the CHPC chairwoman, Liberal Marlene Catterall, who stated:

"I don't think that's likely to get them any votes," she said. "One only has to watch a day [or] an evening of American television to know that we have a significantly higher standard in Canada . . . and I believe having the CBC has influenced the standard of not only public broadcasting but private broadcasting in this country."

So I guess that is what my heritage comes down to for the Liberals – votes and a swipe at Americans? If that is what heritage is, attempts to get votes, than may be we need to look beyond the CBC and more towards Heritage Canada. I wonder how many MRIs we can buy with that Department’s budget and the 1 billion from the CBC…
